The Research and Development Manager – EV Technology is responsible for leading the development and innovation of electric vehicle (EV) technologies, including battery systems, powertrains, charging infrastructure, and energy efficiency solutions. This role involves overseeing research projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, and aligning R&D efforts with market trends and company objectives.
- Develop and implement R&D strategies focused on EV technology advancements.
- Identify new trends, emerging technologies and opportunities for innovation in the EV sector.
- Drive innovation in battery technology, electric drivetrains, energy management, and vehicle efficiency.
- Lead and manage R&D projects related to EV components, systems, and software.
- Develop project roadmaps, set timelines, and allocate resources for successful execution.
- Ensure projects meet performance, quality, cost, and safety standards.
- Conduct research on battery chemistry, thermal management, energy storage and power electronics
- .Oversee the development of charging infrastructure, fast-charging solutions and smart grid integration.
- Collaborate with suppliers and industry partners to stay ahead of EV technologies
- Develop prototypes and test systems for evaluating new EV technologies.
- Recruit, train, and mentor an R&D team specializing in EV technology.
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and collaboration within the team.
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and marketing teams to ensure smooth product development.
- Ensure all R&D activities comply with automotive safety standards and EV regulations.
- Manage patents, intellectual property, and technical documentation.
- Work with government bodies and industry regulators to align developments with industry requirements.
- Manage the R&D budget, ensuring cost-effective research operations.
- Secure funding for research projects through internal budgets, grants, and industry partnerships.
- Optimize resource utilization to maximize innovation impact.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in EV research and development,
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in Electric Vehicle Charging Solutions, Power Conditioning System, and Battery Energy Storage system
- Technical & Managerial Skills
- Expertise in lithium-ion and solid-state batteries, and alternative energy storage solutions.
- Knowledge of power electronics, electric motors, and regenerative braking systems.
- Proficiency in CAD, simulation tools and automotive software development.
- Experience with vehicle testing, validation, and certification processes.
- Strong project management skills with experience in Agile methodologies.
